Committees

In addition to the board, Occoquan Forest has a number of all-volunteer committees described below:

Architectural Control Committee

This committee reviews architectural plans, submitted by OF homeowners, to ascertain compliance of exterior appearance on new construction or remodeling in accordance with the OF architectural guidelines. All new and remodeling construction must receive approval from this committee before commencement of work. ACC members attend monthly meetings and may be assigned to visit a home site. This committee also reviews requests for tree-cutting, exterior paint and window changes, fencing and sheds.

Audit Committee

This committee comprises the Treasurer, one Director who is not the treasurer, and two Association members. They conduct an annual audit of the Association books and approve the annual statement of income and expenditures which is presented at the Annual Meeting (By-laws Article VI).

Grounds and Trails Committee

This committee, in concert with the Natural Area Management Committee, operates mainly during the spring, summer and fall and maintains the OFOA grounds and hiking trails. There are no committee meetings, but rather a call for volunteers at the time of a needed project. Gatherings before and after each work session provide for social interaction and light refreshments.

Natural Area Management Committee

This committee, in concert with the Grounds and Trails Committee, ensures that the natural areas on our OFOA community property are cared for appropriately. Vegetated areas along water bodies, such as lakes, streams, rivers, marshes or shoreline, are known as riparian buffers. The OFOA shoreline is such a buffer, known as a Resource Protection Areas (RPAs) under the Bay Act. RPAs are protected under state law and local ordinances. There are no committee meetings, but rather a call for volunteers at the time of a needed project.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is appointed by the Board of Directors. This committee is responsible for seeking nominations for the Board of Directors that meet the established criteria (By-laws Article VI).
